How does massage work?
For centuries, human touch has been shown to be emotionally and physical healing. Particular massage techniques may either stimulate or calm the body’s muscles and tissues to create the desired effect. When a practitioner massages soft tissue, electrical signals are transmitted both to the local area and throughout the body. These signals, in combination with the healing properties of touch, help heal damaged muscle, stimulate circulation, clear waste products via the lymphatic system, boost the activity of the immune system, reduce pain and tension, and induce a calming effect. Massage may also enhance well-being by stimulating the release of endorphins (natural painkillers and mood elevators) and reducing levels of certain stress hormones.
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage
(Kusum Modak method)
The Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) is a deep tissue oil massage technique developed by the Indian master Kusum Modak in India after many years studying Iyengar yoga and traditional ayurvedic massage. AYM is one of the most complete massage technics nowadays which works on many levels – physical, mental, emotional and energetic.
What to expect during the session
The massage is done on a mattress on the floor, the therapist starts with an oil massage with their hands and feet, gradually warming up and softening muscle tissues, fascia and organs, facilitating breathing and improving circulation followed by assisted yoga stretches, tractions and gentle mobilizations which help lengthen the tissues and can help bring a deep sense of relaxation and renewed energy. Through these gentle movements, we also help relax tendons and ligaments and renew the synovial fluid in joints. We work with the whole body with emphasis on the areas that need more work. Besides oil, we use a herbal powder called Calamus which creates a pleasant exfoliating feeling, but mainly it helps improve blood circulation and warm up the tissues quicker, intensifying the benefits of the massage. It helps to remove natural toxins and supports the proper function of the lymphatic system, resulting in a feeling of total renovation, vitality, and wellbeing.
